"The techniques of Aikido are intended for us to use in
examining the nature of power,
to engage in uncompromising self-scrutiny,
and to realize our potential as powerful, compassionate,
self-aware human beings."

Mary Heiny Sensei

Dear Aikido Colleagues and Friends,

I want to say say a huge thank you to all my amazing Aikido family for taking care of me in a very generous way. I have received not only gifts of money to help with surgery and after surgery but also many many expressions of good wishes. Thanks to all of you, I will receive surgery on June 3 at the Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb, Illinois from Dr. Russell Bodner. Dr. Bodner is a fellow Aikido teacher who is an orthopedic surgeon and is waiving his fee for the surgery. I will be staying with Cynthia Nelson, faculty advisor to the Northern Illinois University Aikido club through June 16 and then coming home to Seattle for further rehab and healing. I am planning to be a the Santa Cruz Aikido Retreat July 9 - 13 if all goes as planned.

If you want to communicate with me you can use the address of sayuri2@comcast.net which I can accesses remotely. Also you can send a note to either the DeKalb Community Hospital or Cynthia's address. The friendsofmaryheiny.org website should carry updates of the surgery.
